Earth Literacy, as a movement, is capable of initiating profound social change, by inspiring the depths of human awe, love and feelings needed to transform our human patterns of destruction into mutually enhancing relationships with Earth's community of life.
It provides a context for engaging a fascination and intimacy with a sense of place, a bioregional context for re-visioning our human meaning, direction and vocation.
Why Earth Literacy?
This unique spiritual/educational program is designed to help participants tune into Thomas Berry’s “Dream of the Earth."
During the program we explore the Universe Story, Earth’s Story, the Human Story and the Bioregional Story.
These stories are not only Earth science and biology, but more importantly, they have spiritual and mystical significance.
Experienced in this program, they are intended to awaken human consciousness to what Berry calls “the grandeur and sacred quality of the Earth process.”
What's It All About?
When Is It?
La Vista offered a week long Earth Literacy program every August from 2001 through 2014.
In the next two years we offered a long weekend program in October and included the OMI Novices as participants.
Dates and times for the next program are yet to be announced.
